We will hold our April 2025 social event at Photobook Cafe, with special guests Daura Campos and Leonie Schaffner, who are exhibiting at Cluster Art Fair.
’The London Alternative Photography Collective now organise regular social gatherings , as over the past 11 years we have built up quite a community. These socials provide an informal space, bringing together people who love analogue, alternative and experimental photography. We will cycle between different times and days, to make sure we accommodate different schedules. Likewise, we’ll swap between meeting at exhibitions, having a coffee/tea and visiting the pub.’
Details:
Date: Sunday 13 April, 3pm.
Venue: PHOTO BOOK CAFE 4 Leonard CircusLondon, England, EC2A 4DQ.
Daura Campos is an artist based in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, who explores social issues through experimental photography. Her work has been exhibited and won awards internationally. She teaches historical and experimental photography in person and online. Her project Cloud Watching examines photographic “failure,” creating fragmented images that challenge photography’s role in memory preservation. Since 2023, Daura has collected discarded negatives from multiple continents, sourcing them from flea markets, online connections, and labs. By partially removing the emulsion, she reveals glimpses of others’ memories, inviting new narratives. Like pareidolia—seeing shapes in clouds—these images encourage viewers to find personal meaning in abstraction.
’Swiss artist Leonie Schaffner explores how encounters leave traces.
Her ongoing project Journey of Encounters moves between photography, intermedial art therapy, and social culture.
The image Departure into the Fabric of Encounters reflects this delicate process:
A departure is rarely just a leaving –
it is a stepping into the fragile fabric between self and other.
Encounters weave into us…
Some threads stay soft, others tighten.
What kind of pattern will remain,
to tell the story of who we were?"‘
